LoV2030
“One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.”
Psalm 145:4
This past February we began a process to prayerfully seek what the Lord might have next for Light of the Valley. We titled the process “LoV2030- Light for Generations to Come” based on the verse above.
The first part of that process was to spend a few months “clarifying our calling” as we offered workshops, took a congregational survey and interviewed ministry leaders.
This summer, our steering team and church leaders spent time “equipping our calling” by working on vision, values and a five-year strategy.
As we welcome the fall season, we are entering an exciting time of entering the “activate” phase of our LoV2030 vision. Our prayer has been that Light of the Valley would not simply be a place people attend, but a family of faith where God’s light shines brightly—for us, for our children, and for generations yet to come.
We see grandparents sitting with teenagers, passing on not only the skills of life but also the wisdom of faith. We picture young families finding that church is the steady rhythm of their week—a place where children are known by name, where marriages are strengthened, and where faith becomes part of daily life. And we see those in later seasons of life discovering anew that God still has purpose for them—to mentor, to encourage, to serve, and to lead.
Our mission is simple: to help people discover new purpose, meaning and significance for their lives in Christ. During the last six months, based on congregational input, searching the Scriptures and times of much prayer, we have identified five values that give shape to all of our ministries: 1- Jesus creates lasting relationships here; 2-God’s Word shines light on every part of life; 3-No matter where you’ve been you’ve got a home here; 4-Everyone has a next step; and 5-We share Jesus with Elk Grove and beyond.
In the weeks ahead, our sermon series on “LoV2030“ will walk us deeper into each of these values and explore their application to our future ministry. My hope is that as a church and as individual members, we will hear God’s voice calling us—not only to grow in faith, but to pass that faith on. Because the light of Christ shines upon us, in us and through us for the blessing of those who come after us.
I look forward to taking this journey with you and seeing where God leads us in this season of Light of the Valley’s history.
Thanks for your partnership in the Gospel,
-Pastor Jay
