Operation Christmas Child
LOV is collecting gift-filled shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child again this year! We will have the premade boxes available here at church on Sundays now through November 8th. We will collect the filled boxes here at church up through November 15th, and that afternoon they will be taken to the collection center.
Here are a few Christian companies where you may purchase items to fill the boxes:
What is Operation Christmas Child?
Operation Christmas Child is a global outreach project run by Samaritan’s Purse, focused on delivering gift‑filled shoeboxes to children living in poverty, conflict zones, or areas affected by disaster. Each shoebox is packed by volunteers with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items, then collected during National Collection Week and shipped to children around the world. Since its start in 1993, the project has delivered more than 244 million shoebox gifts to children in over 175 countries and territories, offering many kids their very first Christmas gift.
The heart of the program is simple: show God’s love in a tangible way. Volunteers pack boxes, drop them off at local collection sites, and can donate online to track where their box travels. Each shoebox becomes an opportunity to share joy and hope with a child who may be facing war, poverty, or disaster. Volunteers go out ahead into these communities to build relationships with the children, then come to Samaritan’s Purse with an individualized list of names so that each child receives a gift meaningful and appropriate for them. Children and their families get to also hear the message of Christ when they receive their box.
In a nut shell, Operation Christmas Child is essentially a massive, volunteer‑powered Christmas gift drive—one that connects communities here with children across the globe through small, meaningful gifts and a message of care.
